drooling….

gah!
Please take the time to read this. I recently went on a mission trip and am now fundraising to support a family I met while I was there. The picture above is of Marcela and I. Just $1 can put food on her table for a day. If you would like to donate, please click through or go to http://www.crowdrise.com/marcela. This is our story:

On April 1, 2012 I set off for a one week mission trip to Piura, Peru. I knew that giving back has always been a calling of mine, but I never could have imagined that I would be given back to. The people of Piura are resillient, loving, pure and faithful.

On the first day of the mission, we went to a site to build a house for a family in need. Before we knew it, half of the village had gathered around, looking at the foreigners who are stirring up a commotion in their town. Children danced and played all around us, but one in particular caught my attention: Marcela.

Marcela is seven years old and has four siblings: Franklin (21), Karol (20), Gerald (16) and Juan Gabriel (5). Her father passed away and has only her mother, Elena, to take care of her.

She’s currently studying in the first grade but doesn’t have enough clothes or shoes to play sports at her school. She walks there by herself every day. Elena struggles every month to find 10 Soles ($4) to pay the academic fees.

Karol is the only one at the house who is currently working and providing any source of income for Marcela’s family.

Their current living situation is unimaginable to the likes of us. Their house consists of two bedrooms, a living room and a kitchen. Marcela sleeps with her mother, Karol and Juan Gabriel, all in one bed. The other room is shared by the two older boys, Franklin and Gerald.

In order to provide a better life for Marcela and her family, it is my goal (for now) to raise $1500. This will supply them with

- Food for one year

- Adding an extra bedroom to the house so that Marcela and Karol can have their own

- A table for the family

- A homework table for Marcela (who currently has to stand up while doing her work because their table is too high for her to sit at)

- School supplies, school shoes and sport clothes

- Academic fees for the year

- Supplies for Elena to offer at store at their home, generating extra income.
